ABOUT
Broadside Youth Summer School
The Broadside Youth Summer School is a residential course bringing together young singers for six days of ambitious choral singing, expert tuition, high quality performances and meaningful connections.
Based at Langley School in Norfolk, the Summer School combines focused rehearsals and sectionals with the experience of living and making music together. The week is led by leading music teachers and professional musicians who know how to challenge, encourage and inspire young singers.
Develop as a singer
Spend six days immersed in great choral music. Through full rehearsals, sectionals and focused musical work, singers will develop their voices, musicianship and confidence while exploring some of the finest music in the English choral tradition.
The course is designed to be musically ambitious while remaining warm and supportive, giving young singers the opportunity to challenge themselves and enjoy being part of an excellent choir.
Perform in inspiring places
Performance is an important part of the week.
During the Summer School, the choir will spend a day at Salle Church, culminating in Choral Evensong and giving singers the opportunity to perform this music within the setting and tradition for which much of it was written.
The week will culminate in a public concert in Norwich Cathedral, bringing together the music explored throughout the course.
Beyond the rehearsal room
The Summer School is about more than the time we spend rehearsing.
There will be plenty of space in the week to relax, spend time outdoors, take part in organised activities and enjoy being together away from the music. For residential singers, sharing the week at boarding school will be an important part of the experience, giving everyone time to get to know one another and build friendships alongside the singing.
Non-residential places are also available for young singers living or staying locally, who will still be able to take part fully in the musical and social life of the course.
Who is it for?
The Broadside Summer School is for young singers aged 13–18 with a real enthusiasm for singing. We are looking for young singers who want to develop, be challenged and enjoy making music with others.
You might:
sing in a school, church, cathedral, county or youth choir;
have singing lessons and be looking for more opportunities to perform;

simply love singing and want to spend a week with other young musicians who share that enthusiasm.
Previous choral experience is desirable. Participants should be comfortable reading music or willing to prepare their music carefully in advance.
Residential places are open to singers from across the country, alongside non-residential places for those living or staying locally.
